An Open Letter to the Marketing Community:

Now Is The Time To Band Together

Dear Colleagues:

A-not-so-funny thing happened during the recession: Internal marketing departments, agencies and consulting firms all scaled back, forcing talent by the thousands to fend for themselves. And many did just that, starting solo consultancies of varying focus…and varying success. In many other cases, good marketing people who were unable to find jobs or successfully start consulting careers, simply abandoned the field of marketing altogether, or dramatically shifted their focus.

Interestingly, one of the hardest hit sectors of the marketing function was strategic thinking.

While many argue that the real recession is over, the building-back process will be slow. And undoubtedly, even slower in the world of marketing.

But here’s the bright side: Because marketing and brand strategy were so quickly and thoroughly cut from so many companies, they represent the most dramatically lacking elements in most marketing efforts. And most smart companies now poking their heads up from the recession…they know it.

The companies that choose to continue as though marketing and brand strategy won’t be needed in our new future…well, they run the very real risk of dying a quick and painful death at the hands of the companies now ramping back up.

As with the end of every economic downturn, marketing driven by desperation and survival will once again give way to marketing focused on out-thinking and out-spending less-than-savvy competitors.

At Cohesion, we believe that there has never been a better time for a company focused on strategy. There is a tremendous vacuum and we intend to fill it. Today, the companies we talk with desperately need, and are once again beginning to buy, the marketing and brand direction services we offer.

But we need more: Sales. Marketing. Brand. Account services. Project management. Administrative. And more.

Perhaps you’re one of the marketing folks I mentioned earlier that has become disillusioned during the past few years? We’re looking for a few good people to help drive our new vision and (if you’re interested), we’d like to talk. Maybe you’re on your own. Maybe you’ve started your own practice. Maybe, you’re working for someone else.

We intend to build the premier brand practice in the Midwest. Maybe, you’re ready to join us?

If you’re interested, let’s meet and discuss opportunities. I can be reached at the contact information, below.

Best regards,
